Calls for Papers

IHL Beyond States – New Patterns, New Spaces, and New Actors in Armed Conflicts: The Faculty of Political Science at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Political Science invites submissions for an international conference examining how international humanitarian law (IHL) is responding to the changing nature of armed conflict. As contemporary conflicts increasingly involve non-state actors, new technological domains such as cyberspace and outer space, and evolving methods of warfare, the conference encourages critical reflection on whether existing legal frameworks remain adequate or require rethinking. The event will feature a keynote by Marco Sassòli.

Abstracts (max. 500 words) are invited from scholars worldwide, particularly early-career researchers and those from underrepresented regions. Submissions should include a short CV, ORCID identifier, and an indication of whether a full paper is intended for publication. The deadline for abstracts is 10 May 2026, with notifications by 1 June 2026. A limited number of travel grants are available. Accepted participants will be invited to submit full papers (by 15 November 2026) for consideration in a post-conference publication. The conference forms part of Serbia’s annual IHL Day, organized in partnership with the Red Cross of Serbia. More information here.
