14 Jul Welcoming Our New Assistant Editors for Review and Editorial Team Updates
We are delighted to announce exciting developments on the editorial side of Opinio Juris that will strengthen our operations and further support our mission to serve as a leading forum for discussion on international law and international relations.
First, we are thrilled to welcome four outstanding new Assistant Editors for Review. These talented individuals bring rich and diverse experiences in international law and will play a vital role in streamlining our editorial workflow and significantly reducing turnaround times for submissions. Their expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the continued quality, efficiency, and impact of our publication process.
Meet Our New Assistant Editors for Review
Bianca Isabella Ortiz
Bianca is currently serving as a Judicial Fellow for Judge Hilary Charlesworth
at the International Court of Justice. She brings to the role a deep and varied
background in public international law, international human rights law,
international environmental and climate change law, WTO and trade law,
international humanitarian law, the law of international organizations, and
international dispute settlement. Her broad legal expertise and international
experience make her a tremendous asset to our editorial team.
María José Alarcón Santillán
Maria Jose joins us with three years’ experience as an Assistant Editor for the Kluwer Arbitration Blog, where she gained extensive experience in international legal publishing. Her academic and professional background includes a focus on international environmental law and state responsibility, bringing sharp editorial instincts and deep substantive insight to her new role with us.
Mansha Mohee
Mansha’s work focuses on the intersections of international law, forced displacement, and postcolonial critique, with a particular emphasis on the territorialisation of refugee protection in Francophone Africa. Her scholarship is grounded in critical perspectives and a strong understanding of international legal regimes affecting migration and displacement—perspectives that will enrich our editorial process and broaden the diversity of voices we feature.
Erick Guapizaca Jiménez
Erick brings a wealth of editorial experience from his time at the Michigan
Journal of International Law (MJIL). As Managing Editor, he led a team of
five editors, coordinated the final review of nine articles, and oversaw the
full issue cycle. He also previously served as Articles Editor and Blog Editor
for MJIL Online, where he mentored student contributors and managed
online content. His demonstrated leadership and editorial judgment will be
instrumental to our review process.
In the coming days, you’ll be able to read more about each of our new Assistant Editors in the Contributors section of the blog. We’re excited for you to get to know them and to see the contributions they’ll help bring to light.
Internal Promotions and Editorial Support
We are also pleased to share that Ameera Ismail and Emilia Klebanowski have been promoted to Assistant Editors focusing on day-to-day editorial operations. Ameera and Emilia have long been essential to the smooth functioning of Opinio Juris, working tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate posts, events, announcements, and blog symposia. Their promotion reflects both their expertise and their dedication to the mission of the blog. We’re grateful to have them in these key roles ensuring the consistency, organization, and impact of our daily editorial work.
Welcoming Our New Editorial Assistant
Finally, though we are very sad to see our Editorial Assistant Natasha King go after so many years of brilliant work supporting the blog, we’re excited to introduce Mischa Gureghian Hall, who joins us as our new Editorial Assistant. Mischa will support the full editorial team with copyediting, logistics, and coordination of special projects and events. With his sharp attention to detail and enthusiasm for international law, Mischa rounds out the editorial side of Opinio Juris and helps us meet the growing demands of our expanding readership and contributor base.
With these additions and promotions, we are proud to be entering a new chapter in the development of Opinio Juris. We are confident that our strengthened editorial team will allow us to continue delivering high-quality, timely, and thought-provoking content to our readers around the world.
Please join us in welcoming Bianca, Maria Jose, Mansha, Erick, and Mischa—and in congratulating Ameera and Emilia on their new roles. We look forward to continuing to serve as a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking platform for international legal dialogue.
