Calls for Abstracts

Call for Abstracts – International Conference (VIRTUAL) on Contemporary Trends in International Economic Law: The Indian Law Society (ILS) Centre for International Law is pleased to announce that a two-day International Conference (VIRTUAL) on Contemporary Trends in International Economic Law will be held on March 14 and 152023. The deadline for abstracts is 31 January. The conference is open for participation to students and academics from around the world. Over the course of the two days, we shall have detailed discussions on the subject of contemporary trends in international economic law, with a key focus on certain recent and emerging issues that will form the sub-themes of the conference. For further details regarding the conference, click here.

Call for Abstracts – Legitimate Aims and Ulterior Purposes in International Human Rights Law: The Centre for Fundamental Rights at the Hertie School, PluriCourts at the University of Oslo and the Academy for European Human Rights Protection at the University of Cologne invite paper submissions that analyse the demarcation of legitimate aims and/or ulterior purposes in contemporary IHRL. We welcome papers that employ normative, doctrinal, critical or social science methods. We also particularly welcome papers that employ comparative methods drawing on public or human rights law, and other fields of law (public or private) to analyse legitimate aims and/or ulterior purposes, as well as papers that draw on political and democratic theory. The conference will be held in Berlin on 2 June 2023, and abstracts are due on 15 February 2023. For more information, click here.

Call for Abstracts – The European Union and the Interpretation of Customary International Law: The TRICI-Law and EUDIPLO projects are organizing a Workshop in Groningen on the 28th of April 2023. The Workshop aims to examine the interpretation of customary international law within and by the EU. This will be done by taking a dual perspective:
1. An outside-in perspective in which we analyse how CIL has been and is being interpreted in the EU legal order and which choices are made by the legislator and the judiciary; and
2. An inside-out perspective in which specific interpretations of customary international law by the EU may find their way into the global debates and lead to further clarification, development and/or even possible modification of the existing rules.

Those interested in submitting an abstract are invited to do so until the 24th of February 2023, and to also consult TRICI-Law’s findings here, which describe what is meant by interpretation of customary international law. For further instructions (abstract word count; CV etc.), see the call for papers here
