Call for Papers: 12th Annual Conference of the Cambridge International Law Journal: The Conference Convenors and Editors of the Cambridge International Law Journal (CILJ) welcome submissions for the 12th Annual Cambridge International Law Conference, which will be hosted in person at the Faculty of Law of the University of Cambridge from 24 to 25 April 2023. Submissions may be on any area of public or private international law, and should raise issues relevant to the theme Language in International Law. The deadline for abstracts is 20 January 2023. Call for Submissions – ICON•S Annual Conference on “Islands and Ocean: Public Law in a Plural World”: The ICON•S Annual Conference will take place from 3-5 July 2023 in Wellington, hosted by the Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington and its New Zealand Centre for Public Law. The first submission cycle is now open. Submissions may, but need not necessarily, relate to the overarching Conference theme. We will have five types of submissions: individual submissions, fully formed panels, book roundtables, forums, and interest groups. You do not need to submit written papers. Submissions will generally include a title and an abstract of up to 250 words. We encourage the submission of fully formed panels and book roundtables. For more information, click here.

Call for Abstracts – 6th Young European Law Scholars Conference ‘The Future of EU Fundamental Rights’: The 6th annual Young European Law Scholars Conference (YELS) will be held on Thursday and Friday 1-2 June 2023 at Maastricht University, The Netherlands. We invite young scholars of European law (i.e. all scholars who have not yet secured a full professorship) to come together and discuss the future of EU fundamental rights law. In keeping with the format of previous YELS conferences, scholars whose papers are selected will be given the opportunity to present their work at the conference and to receive dedicated, individualised feedback on their paper from a distinguished scholar in the field of European (fundamental rights) law. Call for Abstracts – Green Crimes and Ecojustice Conference: The Green Crimes and Ecojustice conference will take place at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, on May 25 and 26, 2023. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for researchers from different disciplines from around the globe to present and discuss their work. Therefore, we cordially invite you to submit an individual paper or a panel consisting of four presentations maximum. Abstracts of papers should have a maximum of 300 words. For panel proposals, please submit the entire set of abstracts. Abstracts are due by 1 February 2023. For more information click here.

Call for Abstracts – The Fourth Environmental Era: Climate Justice – An Edited Collection: After a successful panel discussion at the American Branch of International Law Association’s International Law Weekend 2022, we are putting together an edited collection proposal for Vernon Press centering Climate Justice. We welcome brief abstracts to be included in the collection. The book will carry the proposed title ‘The Fourth Environmental Era: Climate Justice’ and contributions could be (but are not limited to) any of the following subject areas:

  • Broad international legislative rights-based efforts to combat climate change;
  • The role of international, regional, and/or domestic courts in the fight for climate justice;
  • Comparative anthropogenic/ecocentric approaches to climate justice;
  • Social justice, environmental justice, and/or youth justice movements and their influence upon international environmental decisions;
  • International criminal law and the (potential) crime of ecocide;
  • The scope of the proposed United Nations Global Plastics Treaty and how it may shape future climate justice efforts;
  • Incorporating Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) into climate justice;
  • Law of the sea and ocean-based solutions as tools for climate justice;
  • Remedies for vulnerable states and peoples;
  • Climate reparations and the call for loss and damage funds by developing countries.

If interested, please submit 500-word abstracts (with a minimum of 5 sources, formatted using Bluebook) and 150-word biographies by Monday 20th February, 2023. Chapters will be 8,000-10,000 words with the final manuscript submitted to Vernon Press for publishing during 2024. For more information, click here.

Semaine Doctorale Intensive / Intensive Doctoral Week (12th Edition), 12-17 June 2023 in Paris: Organized by Sciences Po Law School and the Law and Political Science Doctoral School of Paris Nanterre University, the Intensive Doctoral Week (IDW) enables PhD researchers to discuss their research with fellow doctoral students, but also to receive feedback from distinguished law professors with expertise in their field of inquiry. Moreover, the IDW is a forum where researchers from all over the world meet to discuss cross-cutting issues and innovative methodologies of legal research.

Early and advanced PhD students focusing on any law-related topic are encouraged to apply. Applications can be submitted either in French or in English. The deadline to apply is 7 January 2023. For more information, click here.
