Lecture on the US-ICC Relationship

Lecture on the US-ICC Relationship

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of giving an online lecture for the Iranian Center for International Criminal Law about the relationship between the US and the ICC. In the lecture, I trace the evolution of the US-ICC relationship and try to predict what that relationship will look like under President Biden. I also speculate about why Trump has been so unprecedentedly hostile to the ICC — an explanation that focuses on the fact that at least four past or present Trump administration officials, including Gina Haspel and Steven G. Bradbury, likely have at last some criminal responsibility for torture in Afghanistan.

You can find the video on YouTube here. I tried embedding it, but the formatting didn’t work.

As always, comments and questions welcome!
