Jon, not as ridiculous as an educated guy of your generation may think. These guys are scout snipers and unfortunately the double ‘S” lightning strikes have on occasion popped up as a “cool looking”unofficial symbol of this community. When young Marines are informed about the sinister background of the symbol, most have no clue about the history or the symbolism. Nonetheless, even the uninformed use of such a hateful symbol is unacceptable and leaders at all levels must be vigilant against it.
