I just can’t resist:
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: “The Lord of the Rings” and “Atlas Shrugged.” One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Of course, “inability to resist” is itself a trait of both fourteen-year olds and emotionally stunted, socially crippled adults. Go figure.
Well said…
“ORCS RULE !!”, said Atlas as he shrugged.
At the tone, the time is 1:13 pm EST.

My 12th level paladin and I totally agree with your post.

I’m more concerned about Ayn Rand’s terrible characterization… her characters are two dimensional and frequently change motivation for the sole purpose of the plot. That’s without even touching on the creepy “All women secretly want to be raped” vibe that permeates all her female characters.
Sadly, the movie appears to be pushed until 2011.
