Sudanese Government Burns Rebel Town

Yes, there would indeed be peace in the Sudan if only the ICC would quit demanding accountability for government officials:

The town belongs to the only Darfur rebel faction to sign a 2006 peace deal with the Sudanese government.

Yet yesterday Sudanese government troops and allied militia attacked Muhajiriya, burning half of the town to the ground in a “stab in the back of the Darfur peace deal”.

At least 40 people were killed and bodies were still lying in the streets, the rebel faction which controls the area said today.

“Until now the number of dead civilians are at least 40, with 80 missing and a large number of injured,” the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) said in a statement sent to Reuters.

The town, in South Darfur, is held by the Sudan Liberation Army faction led by Minni Arcua Minnawi who signed a May 2006 peace deal and joined the Khartoum government.
