IL Can Be Funny, Sort Of

by Peter Spiro

It’s not every day that international law scholars show up on the Comedy Channel, but here’s a clip of Anne-Marie Slaughter on the Colbert Report. (Thanks to Ed Swaine for the pointer.) Slaughter’s new book, The Idea That Is America: Keeping Faith with Our Values in a Dangerous World, appears to be getting more than the usual push from publisher Basic Books. Looks to me like a manifesto for “democratic hegemony”, in Michael Lind’s new taxonomy (a hunch not dispelled by Colbert’s studio audience chanting “we’re number one, we’re number one”), but I’ll reserve judgment until I have my copy in hand.

UPDATE: For a more serious treatment, see this discussion over at the TPMCafe Book Club.
