U.N. General Assembly Condemns Holocaust Denials
This shouldn’t be news, but it might be worth noting that the U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution today condemning denials of the Holocaust and calling such denials “tantamount to approval of genocide in all its forms.” The resolution was adopted by consensus, which actually is kind of silly because one of the goals of the resolution is to smoke out those countries that are flirting with the Deniers (read: Iran). By making those countries go on record, the GA Resolution could have actually required some hard political choices. As it stands, it still allows Iran’s UN Representative to complain about the resolution without actually embracing Holocaust-denials.

I’m going to agree “This shouldn’t be news.”
The UN does pointless grandstanding like this on a daily basis.

The obvious benefit of this resolution passing by consensus is that it preemptively undermines Holocaust denials by officials in any government (e.g., Iran). I think this resolution is a worthwhile political statement by the UNGA.
