Researching International Law in Domestic Courtrooms

Researching International Law in Domestic Courtrooms

As some readers may know, I’m a big fan of comparing how domestic actors, including courts, address international law. Of course, the trouble with comparative research has always been accessing materials from foreign jurisdictions. But, help may be on the way. The Amsterdam Center for International Law is working with Oxford University Press to launch a new on-line reporting service that will detail domestic court decisions that address international law. It should include case law reports from 70 countries and translations into English where necessary. More details on the project–which is set to launch this fall–can be found here.

Victor Abramovich, Alberto Bovino and I are putting together a book on domestic application of international human rights traties in Argentina, with a lot of information about case-law and other forms of local implementation on a wide span of rights. It´s actually the follow up of a previous book. Both are in Spanish.

It will probably be out in a couple of months.

Christian Courtis
