Sing-along with CISG

Sing-along with CISG

Yes, there is actually a song detailing the history and jursiprudence of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (“CISG”). Here’s the audiofile, brought to you by Professor Harry Flechtner at the University of Pittsburgh. It is certainly one way to liven up your contracts or international sales class. Download it while it is hot!

Here’s a verse:

When I was a little boy my daddy said to me,
“If you want great riches, son, it’s a merchant you should be.
You can deal in goods from cars to cod, and earn more than enough.
But don’t buy or sell ‘cross borders, son, cause that’s awfully risky stuff.”

We didn’t have no C-I-S-G.
If we bought or sold in another State we didn’t know what the law would be.
But now there’s a Convention to make global trade more free.
‘Cept them gol-danged U.S. courts just treat it like the U-C-C.

The liner notes for the song production are at www.cisgsong.info.

You really haven’t hit the Platonic form of International Sales Law “geekiness” unless you have seen Professor Fletchner play this live in the Konzerthaus in Vienna, on perhaps the same stage that Strauss performed his work a little more than 90 years ago. And they say our culture is declining!

It is worth the download. And be sure to check out the copious footnotes.

Brilliant. Can we look forward to a follow-up on UNCITRAL?
