Liveblogging from Power and Superpower: Global Leadership for the 21st Century

The writers at Democracy Arsenal did some live-blogging at Tuesday’s conference “Power and Superpower: Global Leadership for the 21st Century,” an event sponsored by the Center for American Progress and the Century Institute. While the msm focuses on Mark Malloch Brown’s criticisms of US participation at the UN (fueled by “unchecked UN-bashing” in the US), and US Ambassador John Bolton’s angry response , the folks at DA have done an impressive job of covering the panel discussions. The full program and links to many of the working papers are posted here. But the live-blog posts give a great flavor for the Q and A and the array of approaches being explored by progressive internationalists (of both parties) to the challenges of global trade, the environment, terrorism, and threats to the peace. The panels also explore the role of democracy promotion, human rights, and, where appropriate, “good” American exceptionalism — something we used to think of as global leadership.
