Happy Birthday to the ICJ!

The International Court of Justice, the “principal judicial organ of the United Nations”, celebrates its sixtieth anniversary today with a solemn sitting at 2:30 GMT (about the time this post goes up). What is a “solemn sitting”? I am not really sure, but various dignitaries will attend, speeches will be made, and (hopefully) cake will be eaten. Of special interest, Judge Bruno Simma will present a summary of the conclusions of the colloquium which the Court is to organize at the Peace Palace in co-operation with UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research).

You can actually get a direct satellite feed, but (oddly) no webcasting of the celebration. For more info, see the ICJ’s website here.
