Supreme Slumber

Supreme Slumber

As reported here, during a particularly technical portion of the oral argument in the Texas redistricting case this week Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was seen dozing away. Both flanking Justices Souter and Alito looked at her sleeping but did nothing. I would suspect that Justice Alito was thinking something along these lines:

Whose snores these are I think I know.
Her sleep is so bemusing though;
She will not see me staring here
To watch her head nod to and fro.

My dutiful clerks must think it’s queer
To see her doze with press corps near
Between redistricting debates
The dullest argument of the year.

They look at me, their heads they shake
To ask if there’s some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sleep
Of a gentle giant who soon will wake.

These chambers are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And years to go before I sleep,
And years to go before I sleep.
