Springer Nature Series of International Law in Asia – Exploring Alternatives to the Kafala System in the GCC: The kafala (sponsorship) system has long structured labor migration in the Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC) countries. While it has facilitated large scale labor mobility, it has also been widely criticized for enabling power imbalance, limiting worker mobility and contributing to labor rights violation. This proposed edited volume seeks to bring together original, critical scholarship that explores alternatives to the kafala system in the GCC. The volume aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on legal, economic, political, and social frameworks that can replace or fundamentally transform sponsorship based labor governance, while remaining attentive to regional specificities.

Abstract should not be longer than 1000 words and must be submitted by 12 January 2026. Each abstract should clearly outline the proposed chapter’s research question methodology  and central argument or contribution to the volume. Submission must be original and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Abstracts should be submitted by email to m.binghaith@gmail.com. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to submit full chapters manuscript. Further information regarding acceptance notifications, chapter length, and submission timeline will be provided after the abstract review process.
