Calls for Papers

Human Rights and the Green Transition – Ensuring Justice for All: The Editors of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Brill Nijhoff) invite submissions for their upcoming online symposium on “Human Rights and the Green Transition: Ensuring Justice for All” to be held on  28 November 2025. As the global community accelerates efforts toward decarbonization and sustainability, the human rights implications of the green transition remain underexplored. This symposium seeks to examine the human rights challenges and opportunities that arise as societies phase out carbon-intensive industries, transition to renewable energy and adopt green technologies. The focus will be on both collective rights, such as the right to development, and individual socio-economic rights, including the right to housing, the right to work and the right to health – in particular of marginalized communities who may be disproportionately affected by the green transition measures.

We encourage submissions from scholars, practitioners and activists from diverse disciplines and geographical regions. Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted by 15 September 2025 to the General Editor of the Yearbook, Prof. Dr. Matthias Vanhullebusch (email: matthias.vanhullebusch@uhasselt.be). More information here.

Legal Education for Sustainable Development – Perspectives from the Global South: The Legal Education Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association in partnership with the Journal of Sustainable Development Law and Policy, welcomes submission of articles for a Special Issue on Legal Education for Sustainable Development. The aim of this Special Issue is to examine and unpack innovative approaches for modernising legal education to accelerate sustainable development, in response to contemporary opportunities and challenges. Articles should be between 5000-8000 words and include an abstract of approx. 250 words. The submission deadline is 12am on 30 July 2025. More information here.

Environmental Law in a Digital Age: The 7th Conference of the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in Middle East and North African Universities (ASSELLMU) will be held on 9 and 10 February 2026, at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, with a view to exploring the role of technology and digitalization in the teaching, research, practice and implementation of environmental law and policy in the MENA region.

This conference will build upon the achievements of ASSELLMU’s first six conferences, respectively held in Doha (Qatar) in 2018, Settat (Morocco) in 2019; Doha (Qatar) in 2021, Amman (Jordan) in 2023; Sohar (Oman) in 2024; and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) in 2025. These conferences have been sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); SADER Legal Publishing; and with technical collaboration and partnership of the Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung; and the UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). Submissions should be send by 15 July 2025 to  dolawuyi@hbku.edu.qa. More information available here.
