Human Rights Essay Award (HREA): The Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law in the United States, extends a formal Call for Papers for the 2025 Human Rights Essay Award (HREA). The submission deadline for this Award is set for February 3rd, 2025, at 11:59 PM (EST). The topic for the 2025 Award is “Human Trafficking and Human Rights.” Entrants are granted the liberty to select any aspect within this thematic domain for their essays; however, it is imperative that the content of the submissions directly addresses the specified topic. Noteworthy is the Academy’s perspective that international human rights law encompasses international humanitarian law and international criminal law. Submissions deviating from the prescribed thematic scope will be disqualified.
The Academy is set to recognize excellence by awarding two winners—one for essays submitted in English and another for those in Spanish. The accolade includes a full tuition scholarship to the 2025 Program of Advanced Studies on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, offering choices between the Diploma or Certificate of Attendance options. Travel, housing, and per diem living expenses are not covered. Scheduled to unfold from May 26 to June 13, 2025, the program promises a comprehensive exploration of human rights and humanitarian law. Moreover, the most outstanding essays stand the chance of being featured in the American University International Law Review, renowned for its wide-ranging and pertinent academic content. With a submission deadline of February 3rd, 2025, the competition invites participation from legal professionals worldwide, exclusively open to individuals who have already obtained their first law degree. Junior Scholars Conference: The Center for International and Comparative Law at the University of Michigan is hosting an upcoming Junior Scholars Conference, which will be held on April 25-26, 2025, in Ann Arbor, MI, USA. The deadline for abstract submissions is January 5, 2025. We are accepting abstract submissions from pre-tenure track faculty, as well as Ph.D. and S.J.D. candidates, in law and related fields. This conference offers a valuable opportunity for junior scholars to present their research, engage with peers, and receive feedback from senior faculty. Thematic panels will be organized, and each presenter will benefit from the insights of faculty commentators. NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy: The NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy invites submissions for Volume IV, open to original and unpublished manuscripts in various categories such as long articles, short articles, case studies, and book reviews, with specific word limits for each. The journal, which undergoes a double-blind peer review, focuses on diverse areas within international law. Manuscripts should adhere to the OSCOLA Citation Standard, and co-authorship is allowed for up to two authors.Submissions must be accompanied by a 250–300-word abstract and formatted according to specified guidelines, including font and spacing. NLR Blog: The NLIU Law Review is the flagship journal of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. It is a peer-reviewed academic law journal, published biannually by the students of the University. NLIU Law Review is now accepting submissions of manuscripts for publication under the NLR Blog launched under its aegis. The NLR Blog does not restrict itself to any particular area of law and welcomes contributions from all branches of law, as long as the work is relevant, up to date and original. Manuscripts on any topic of contemporary legal relevance within the word limit of 1000-1500 words are welcome on a rolling basis. TwoLaW – Lecture Series on the Laws of War: On 22 October 2024, from 6-7 pm CET, Professor Janina Dill (Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford) will give the next lecture of the TwoLaw – Lecture Series on the Laws of War. The topic of the lecture is “International Law in Gaza: Belligerent Intent & Provisional Measures” and focusses on the following doctrinal questions: How to conceptualize belligerent intent and evaluate international courts’ early-stage engagement with ongoing conflict.
