Workshop on the Contribution of the United Nations War Crimes Commission to International Criminal Law: Last year, marked 80 years since the establishment of the United Nations War Crimes Commission (UNWCC) in London. To mark this occasion, the Research Centre in International Justice in Maynooth University is seeking abstracts to participate in a workshop on the contribution of the United Nations War Crimes Commission (UNWCC) to International Criminal Law. This event will take place on 12 July 2024 online and in person. The event brings UNWCC experts and new scholars together to explore the contribution of the work of the UNWCC to contemporary international criminal law. Gravity at the International Criminal Court: Admissibility and Prosecutorial Discretion: St John’s College, University of Oxford is organising an event on Friday, 3 May 2024 (5-6.30 pm UK time) to mark the publication by Priya Urs of Gravity at the International Criminal Court: Admissibility and Prosecutorial Discretion (Oxford University Press 2024). Roger O’Keefe (Bocconi University) will chair a discussion with Philippa Webb (King’s College London and Twenty Essex), Matthew Cross (Office of the Prosecutor, International Criminal Court) and Priya Urs (St John’s College, Oxford). The event will take place in the Mark Bedingham Seminar Room at St John’s College, St Giles’, Oxford OX1 3JP. No in-person registration is required. Register to attend online here.
Tübingen Lecture Series on the Laws of War: On April 11, 2024, from 6-7 pm CET, Gleider Hernández (Catholic University of Leuven) will give the next lecture of the TuLaw – Tübingen Lecture Series on the Laws of War. He will speak on: “Adjudicating War? A new front at the ICJ”. The lecture will discuss current proceedings in respect to the law of armed conflict, especially involving the invocation of obligations erga omnes. It will reflect both on doctrinal and technical questions as well as the wider systemic considerations raised by current proceedings.
