Jessica is the Managing Editor of Opinio Juris and has worked for the blog since 2012. She is an Assistant Professor in International and European Law at the Utrecht University School of Law, where her research focuses on the concepts of accountability, transparency and the rule of law in the legitimacy of military targeting operations in light of increasing autonomy in warfare.
She is also an Associate Fellow at the International Center for Counter-Terrorism–The Hague and sits on the Executive Board of Airwars. Previously, she was a Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, a Project Officer in Humanitarian Disarmament at PAX and a Researcher in human rights and international humanitarian law at T.M.C. Asser Instituut. Her areas of expertise are related to the legality around the use and proliferation of armed drones and military AI/autonomous weapons systems, use of force and targeted killing policies, technological development in warfare, national security, counterterrorism and human rights.
