Announcement

Egyptian Practice of International Law: EGYPIL is a new website dedicated to the identification and documentation of the Egyptian Practice of International law. It seeks to make Egyptian practice more accessible to audiences both within and beyond Egypt. By doing so, it aims to facilitate the accurate ascertainment of Egypt’s positions in relation to international legal rules and their consideration within processes of customary international law formation, while also enhancing domestic understanding and application of international law and supporting greater coherence within the domestic legal order. The website documents Egyptian practice at three levels: the executive, the judicial and the legislative practice. This documentation will be developed on an ongoing basis, with earlier materials gradually being incorporated into the archive section. Readers may also subscribe to receive a monthly newsletter summarizing newly documented Egyptian practice.

Calls for Papers

Workshop on Climate Securitization and International Law: The securitization of climate change has become a rapidly evolving field at the intersection of political science, international relations, environmental studies, security studies, and – not least – international law. The University of the Bundeswehr Munich will host a workshop on this timely topic on 19 October 2026 in Munich.

Abstracts (max. 500 words) are due by 20 April 2026, and full papers (max. 5,000 words) by 30 September 2026. More information on the workshop (including the full Call for Papers) and the broader project can be found here.

Workshop on ‘Absolute Rights under the ECHR at State Borders’: How absolute are absolute rights under the ECHR – especially at state borders? Organised by the Chair for Human Rights and Migration Law at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg (Prof. Dr. Grażyna Baranowska) with Ass. Prof. Dr Vladislava Stoyanova as the keynote speaker. The workshop taking place on 9 and 10 November 2026 in Nürnberg will explore the role of absolute rights – particularly under Article 3 ECHR – in the context of migration, pushbacks, and border violence, against the backdrop of pending Grand Chamber cases on the EU-Belarus border. We welcome contributions from researchers at all career stages, including early-career researchers. Deadline for the submission of abstracts: 10 May 2026.

Judicial Responses to State Violence – Comparative Perspectives on Accountability: The Spring 2027 edition of the Minnesota Journal of International Law’s new digital supplement, Lex Specialis, will feature comparative scholarship focused on how courts, tribunals, and judges respond to human rights violations by state actors. We seek contributions that identify opportunities to hold state actors accountable for committing serious human rights violations and analyze how such claims are received by judicial bodies. This theme responds to the violence by federal agents in Minneapolis as part of Operation Metro Surge beginning in December 2025. While we welcome submissions featuring human rights violations in any context, we are especially interested in judicial responses to violations relating to arbitrary detention, due process, extrajudicial killings, non-refoulement, excessive force, and discrimination.

Articles must be 3,000 – 8,000 words, including citations. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with a deadline of 31 August 2026. Articles should be submitted to mjil@umn.edu

Journal du Droit Transnational: The Journal du Droit Transnational is pleased to invite submissions for its upcoming open access volume. The Board welcomes contributions in English, French and Spanish that engage with current themes in transnational law, broadly defined, including public and private international law, and EU law. In addition, the Volume will host a Symposium on “Cyber in International Law: Evolving Frontiers, Normative Challenges, and Institutional Responses”. The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2026. Submissions and inquiries should be directed to editors@journaldudroittransnational.it.  For more information, please see here.
