Calls for Papers
Canadian Yearbook of International Law – The Use of Force in Recent Conflicts: The Canadian Yearbook of International Law (CYIL) is soliciting papers for a symposium on “The Use of Force in Recent Conflicts.” The symposium seeks to critically assess how recent conflicts are reshaping or even sidelining the law governing the use of force and to examine the role of adjudicatory bodies in clarifying, contesting, or recalibrating the applicable legal framework.
Prospective authors are invited to submit an abstract of up to 500 words by 15 April 2026 to cyil-editor@uottawa.ca. Those selected will be invited to present their paper at the Young Scholars’ Workshop to be held at the University of Ottawa in the fall of 2026, in the margins of the Annual Conference of the Canadian Council on International Law. Authors will then submit their articles for consideration by the Canadian Yearbook of International Law. Subject to favourable peer review, articles submitted as part of the symposium will appear in Volume 65 of the Yearbook in 2027. Full details can be found at the CYIL site here.
ESIL Pre-Conference Workshop – Is the International Criminal Court in Conflict?: The ESIL Interest Group on International Criminal Justice invites submissions for its pre-conference workshop, entitled “Is the International Criminal Court in Conflict?”, to be held on Thursday, 3 September 2026, from 9.00–12.00, immediately prior to the ESIL Annual Conference in Málaga. The workshop will explore whether and how the International Criminal Court is currently operating in conditions of conflict—legal, political, and institutional—and what this means for the future of international criminal justice. We welcome abstracts engaging with the theme from a range of perspectives.
The full Call for Abstracts is available here. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 7 April 2026.
ESIL Pre-Conference Workshop – The International Law of Culture at a Crossroads: This workshop invites participants to engage critically with the evolution of the international law of culture and to explore its capacity to respond to emerging and future challenges. It seeks to provide a forum for discussion on whether existing legal instruments remain fit for purpose, how they may be reinterpreted or reformed, and how the field might develop in the years ahead. The deadline for abstract submissions is 10 April 2026. For the full CfP, please see here.
