Call for Papers

Palestine Against and Through International Law: KÜREMER invites abstracts for a workshop on 13 June 2026 in Istanbul at Koç University, which will critically examine the role of international law in enabling, organising, and contesting the genocide in Gaza. The workshop will dwell in the tension between exposing law’s colonial and racialised complicities and mobilising international legal vocabularies and institutions for accountability, resistance, and emancipation. Each paper will be assigned a discussant who will provide detailed feedback, fostering in-depth discussion and critique. Discussants include Shahd Hammouri (Kent), Victor Kattan (Nottingham), Nahed Samour (Radboud), and Christine Schwöbel-Patel (Warwick).

Abstracts of no more than 500 words should be sent to kuremer@ku.edu.tr by 22 March 2026. Limited funding is available to cover travel and accommodation costs, with priority given to junior scholars and those without institutional financial support. The call for papers can be read here

Events

International Law Symposium in Transnational Networks and Accountability: The Centre for Justice, Law and Society at University of East London, together with Legal Action Worldwide, present: International law symposium on Transnational Networks and Accountability. The symposium will take place at University of East London -University Square Stratford (USS), on Wednesday 4 March 2026 from 11:00am -13:30pm GMT.

Often, lawyers view Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in terms of their specific contribution to the dimensions of global justice, i.e., as advocates or partners in the field. Examining the legitimacy of global justice institution is incomplete unless we look at the broader context of global governance.  Thus, this symposium brings together scholars and practitioners from the disciplines of international law, international criminal law, transitional justice and international relations. Broadly speaking, Kirabira’s new book helps to answer critical questions about the role of NGOs in global governance which continue to evade scholarly works. What should we think of NGOs working within the often-contested spaces of Global South-North global governance? How do they impact on the imbalances in the global governance structures? Are there avenues for countering hegemony within NGO work in international criminal justice? A panel will explore these issues. Find full information here and please register here.

Nuremberg Academy Lecture 2026: The International Nuremberg Principles Academy is hosting this year’s Nuremberg Academy Lecture, which will be delivered by Judge Hilary Charlesworth and will take place on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, in Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, the historic venue of the main Nuremberg war crimes trial. In her lecture, Judge Hilary Charlesworth (International Court of Justice) will address the question “Does the International Court of Justice have a Criminal Jurisdiction?”. She will examine the extent to which issues of international criminal law arise within the work of the International Court of Justice, including through advisory opinions and other judicial functions that intersect with criminal responsibility and accountability under international law.

The event is open to the public free of cost and without pre-registration. All participants are invited to stay for the reception following the lecture. Further Information on the Nuremberg Academy Lecture can be found here.
