Workshop – Straits, Canals and Choke Points: Legal Geographies in Transforming Seascapes: MOBILE Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law at the University of Copenhagen invites submissions for interdisciplinary papers for a special issue on the legal and political geographies of maritime choke points. Contributors will meet for a workshop in Copenhagen on 15 and 16 September 2025. The special issue examines how maritime choke points —both natural and artificial—have shaped and have been shaped by international law’s development in historical and contemporary iterations. It also seek to examine how these features currently face acute tensions, as oceans grow warmer, and as geopolitical conflicts increasingly threaten the flow of commerce. We invite contributions from scholars in fields such as law, history, geography and anthropology. Papers should engage theoretical frameworks and/or concrete cases.
The deadline for abstracts (500 words maximum) and a brief biography (200 words) is 1 June 2025. Draft papers are due 15 August 2025. More information can be found here.
ESIL Pre-Conference Workshop – The Future and Past of “Progress” in Cultural Heritage Law: The ESIL Interest Group on the International Law of Culture invites applications for its Pre-Conference Workshop on ‘The Future and Past of “Progress” in Cultural Heritage Law’. The call for papers is available here. The workshop will take place on 11 September 2025. Conference – Justice and Reconstruction in Post-Conflict Societies: Boğaziçi University Faculty of Law is holding a conference on “Justice and Reconstruction in Post-Conflict Societies”, scheduled for 5 and 6 July 2025 in Istanbul. The conference will critically explore the role of international law in shaping post-conflict transitions, with a focus on security, economic recovery, refugee returns, constitutional processes, sanctions, environmental justice, maritime disputes, and international courts.

SLADI Conference 2025 – Latin America in a Rapidly Changing World: The Latin American Society of International Law (SLADI/LASIL) will celebrate its 7th biennial Conference on the topic of Latin America in a rapidly changing world from 31 July to 2 August 2025 at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo, Uruguay. LADI/LASIL invites submissions of papers and panel proposals addressing one or more of the following issues: Changing World, Changing Law? – International Law Amid Shifting Power Dynamics; Latin America – Approaches, Priorities, and Possibilities; and New Alliances? Multilateralism in and from the Global South. Abstracts and proposals should not be longer than 500 words and be accompanied by a CV. The deadline for submissions is 20 March 2025. Workshop in Honour of Sir Frank Berman KCMG KC: The Oxford University Faculty of Law, ELAC, All Souls College and Wadham College will host a one-day, in-person workshop on 17 June 2025 in honour of Sir Frank Berman KCMG KC. The theme is Treaty Regimes in International Law. Applications should address topics within this theme, including on the functioning, control, and governance of particular treaty regimes, on the activities of dispute settlement or monitoring bodies, and assemblies or conferences of State parties. We are particularly interested in examining how well the general law of treaties copes with the interactions or conflicts between different treaty regimes, as well as between treaty regimes and general international law. Abstracts of no more than 400 words together with a short resumé should be submitted by 10 March 2025. More information can be found here.
Workshop – Research in Philosophy and Jurisprudence: Jurnal Mimbar Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada (JMH UGM) cordially invites students and early career researchers to the “International Junior Legal Scholar Workshop VER 2: Research in Philosophy and Jurisprudence.” The Workshop not limited to student and researchers with law-related backgrounds as long as their papers are within our focus and scope. Top submissions will be peer-reviewed and the authors will be invited to participate in the International Junior Scholar Workshop where authors will attend special lectures by scholars who will be determined later and can have one-to-one discussion sessions to further improve their papers. There is a total prize pool of $700 USD in amazon vouchers and reserved spots for publication for 3 best submissions in JMH.

PhD Positions in the Field of Transitional Justice: The ERC project “Innovation and documentation. Reconstructing the paradigm of transitional justice from the ground up” is seeking to hire three fully funded PhD researchers. The ideal candidates have an interdisciplinary profile, covering at least social and legal studies related to human rights and transitional justice. They are open to using or have experience with various relevant empirical methods (quantitative or qualitative), and have good working knowledge of the various topics studies as part of the research project. The researchers will be based at the human Rights Centre at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of Ghent University. The selected candidates will be offered a position of limited duration as PhD researchers (12 months initially, with 36 months extension upon passing the first year PhD requirements).
