Call for Applications

Nuremberg Summer Academy 2025: The International Nuremberg Principles Academy opened the call for applications for the 2025 Nuremberg Summer Academy for Young Professionals. The Nuremberg Summer Academy is an intensive two-week online course in international criminal law for young professionals from conflict and post-conflict states. The anglophone edition will be held from 4 to 15 August 2025, and the francophone edition will be held from 18 to 29 August 2025. Apply before 31 January 2025 on our website (in English or French).

Calls for Papers

Protection of Human Rights in the Context of Armed Conflict: The Centre for Fundamental Rights at the Hertie School, the Essex Armed Conflict and Crisis Hub and the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex, and the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict and the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford are inviting abstract submissions for a one-day research workshop to be held on 13 June 2025 at the Hertie School in Berlin, Germany. The deadline for submitting abstracts of no more than 500 words is 3 February 2025. After the initial selection of proposals, participants will be invited to submit draft papers between 8,000 and 10,000 words by 2 June 2025. Details of the call can be found here.

Law applicable to the use of biometrics by armed forces: The NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, the War Studies Research Centre of the Netherlands Defence Academy and the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) are organizing an international conference on the law applicable to the use of biometrics by armed forces, contractors working with armed forces, and ICT companies involved in military acquisition and procurement. The conference aims to provide a platform for debate between academics, practitioners and policy-makers to discuss the legal aspects of the military use of this technology. The conference will build on the fruitful discussions held during two previous conferences devoted to this topic held in Amsterdam (May 2023) and Tallinn (May 2024) and will take place in Tallinn on the 22 and 23 May 2025.

Researchers and practitioners interested in addressing the issues above are invited to respond to this call for papers with a 1-2 page proposal for a paper and presentation, along with a brief CV. Please see the call for papers here for further details and suggested topics.

International Law – Silence, Forgetting and Remembrance, Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law (ANZSIL) Annual Conference 2025:  The Organising Committee invites paper and panel proposals for the 32nd ANZSIL Annual Conference, to be held at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia, 2 – 4 July 2025. Submissions on a wide range of areas are invited, with a focus on questions relating to the conference theme, including: What is unknown to, or excluded from, international law? What doctrinal fields, subject matters, actors and objects, and approaches are we at risk of forgetting or ‘un-knowing’?  Who is given a voice in international law? In addition, applications are open for the Alice Edwards Breakthrough Researcher Award, designed to assist one or two early career researchers and PhD students to present at the ANZSIL Annual Conference – see here for eligibility, benefits and the application form. ABILA Chief Operating Officer: The American Branch of the International Law Association (“ABILA” or “the Branch”) seeks a dynamic individual with superb organizational and people skills and an interest in international law for the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO).  This part-time position will require approximately 80 hours/month, 20 hours/week on average. Workload will fluctuate throughout the year, peaking in late summer and fall during preparations for the Branch’s flagship event, International Law Weekend (ILW).
