Check out the following ad for the new Audi A6:
You know you’re in trouble when a German company is using the decaying state of America’s infrastructure to sell cars. Then again, when you think about it, the ad is actually kind of a Republican utopia: austerity and expensive, environment-destroying luxury goods all in one. Why fix the roads when your car doesn’t mind them?
That’s what the US is like. The voters aren’t that interested in “infrastructure”. It’s not like beloved Holland, where Geert Wilders is put on trial twice for the same supposed offense.
Actually, your factual claim is completely incorrect. An overwhelming majority of Americans want infrastructure investment, as even right-wing pollsters have found. It’s elected Republican officials who don’t want it, because it might improve the economy and bolster Obama’s re-election chances.
I said the voters aren’t that interested in it.
Kevin,
The problem is debt which I might add is not exclusively a US problem but one rampant throughout the western democracies particularly the EU. When the populace lives beyond its means for decades ditto the govt you have this awful debt overhang which needs to be paid. Spending now on infrastructure will “help” but simply push off the day of reckoning. The US does not have the money to spend on infrastructure – more debt to pay for it?
What about AU are you folks in dire debt as well?
