29 Feb So You are Thinking About an LL.M.
If you are thinking about an LL.M., I strongly recommend you check out the website LLM Guide. It provides you wonderful details of all the major LL.M. programs in the world.
There also is a nice, handy discussion board for each school. Say you are thinking about doing an LL.M. in International Legal Studies at NYU. You can go to the NYU LL.M. discussion board. One lucky student posed a question on the board:
“I have been admitted to NYU (full time in NY) and they are offering me the Hugo Grotius scholarship (Full tution fees covered). But there is a condition: If they give me the scholarship, I would have to withdraw any other admission from other universities. Actually it’s first, come-firts-served, so If I wait to long, no more scholarship for me, but I can still get in. My dream is to go to Harvard, and I did not received any answer from them yet. Do you think I should take the risk and wait?”
My answer: Take it!
Or say your dream is to do an LL.M. at the University of London. But which is better for your needs and interests, UCL or LSE? One admitted student asked that question on the UCL board, which generated a lengthy discussion of the merits and demerits of each program.
I wish I had had something like this when I was considering doing an LL.M. I loved my experience at the University of Edinburgh, but I was flying blind when I accepted.
Thanks for the tip!
