19 Mar ICC Judge Resigns
The ICC announced today that Judge Karl Hudson-Phillips has resigned his post for personal reasons. Judge Hudson-Phillips (more background here) had previously served as Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago. Under Article 37 of the Rome Statute, the Assembly of States-Parties to the ICC will now elect a new judge to replace Judge Hudson-Phillips, who never actually got to serve on an ICC trial, it appears.
I don’t know if Judge Hudson-Phillips resigned because he had nothing to do, but that is certainly a possibility. With 18 judges, the ICC is a bit top-heavy at the moment. Anyone with any gossip or info on the resignation or the likely candidates for replacements is welcome to chime in.
