Okay, in less than a week I have found myself in complete agreement with Christopher Hitchens and Charles Krauthammer, both of whom have written exceptional editorials on Saddam’s execution. Isn’t that one of the signs of the apocalypse or something?
Kevin, when I click on Krauthammer I get the Hitchens’ article again (now that might be of sign of something, but not sure what).
Also, and not too far afield, perhaps you could comment on Allison Danner’s post over at Concurring Opinions on the ‘Pitfalls of Punishment.’ She notes: ‘the furor over the imposition of the death penalty in the Iraqi case masks a greater systemic problem with international criminal law. While the applicable law and procedure of the field have been greatly clarified in the past decade, the appropriate punishment for transgressions of its norms remains an incoherent morass.’
All good wishes,
Patrick
