Pentagon Releases Names of Guantanamo Detainees

The Pentagon today released the first complete and official list of all detainees currently held at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Here is a copy of the list.

According to the Pentagon, all of the 558 detainees have been through the Combatant Status Review Tribunal process and nearly all have been designated “enemy combatants.” Thirty-eight have been found to be non-enemy combatants and 28 of those have been transferred out of the base already. Currently, the base is holding 490 detainees.

This info follows up earlier disclosures of the transcripts from the CSRT hearings and is accompanied by 500 additional pages (if someone has a link to those docs, I would appreciate it).

The release is required by a Freedom of Information Act suit filed by the Associated Press. Expect more lawsuits to follow.
