29 Mar Opening Event at the ASIL
But what could not be missed if you saw the event live was the undeniable impression that we were witnessing a conversation between three of the most powerful women in the world, moderated by one of the most powerful women in the media. Each participant had their distinctive voice, their vision of the world, their unique strength. Each had arrived at their station in life on merit. And they were being judged based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin or the composition of their chromosomes.
A generation ago they dreamed of a day when these things would happen. Now they do. And it seems almost commonplace, unless you have eyes to appreciate that another small piece of history is in the making.
In short, it was very good night for the ASIL. It was an especially good night for women in international law.
Hear hear. Even those of us who have not lived long enough to compare this event with past ASIL conferences were thrilled to be part of an organization where such an assemblage of great and diverse people takes place.
