Interdisciplinary Series of Public Lectures on ‘Decolonising Law’: The University College of London (UCL) is pleased to announce an interdisciplinary series of public lectures on topics concerned with the relationships between law, race, imperialism, colonialism, anti-imperialism, and de-/anti-/post-colonialism. These lectures will take place online on Zoom, at a time chosen to maximise the possibility of live attendance globally.  Each session will last one hour, with 5 minutes for a short introduction, 35 minutes for the lecture, and 20 minutes for Q & A. Attendance is open to all, without a fee—registration is required, which can be done here. In most cases, the event will be recorded, and posted online on this page afterwards. Convened by Ralph Wilde and Alonso Gurmendi Dunkelberg, with the greatly appreciated organizational support of Lisa Penfold, Events Manager at UCL Laws. T.M.C. Asser Institute Annual Lecture – Europe’s role in the world: We will organise the Annual T.M.C. Asser Lecture 2021 with speaker Brigid Laffan (European University Institute) on 25 November 2021. The title of her lecture is: ‘Europe’s role in the world: player or plaything?’ In her Lecture at the Peace Palace, Brigid Laffan will analyse the challenges facing Europe in ‘a world of geopolitical shift and shock’. According to Brigid Laffan: “We are witnessing a return of Great Power competition and competition between political and economic systems. Urgent challenges – digitalisation, the future of work, the climate crisis, migration and inequality – require national, regional and global responses. The European Union, a polity but not a state, has to adapt and adjust to shifts in global politics. But it struggles to amass collective power or to deploy strategically its resources and capabilities. What are its challenges?” For more information about the lecture, go here.
