Call for Papers

  • The Association of American Law Schools (AALS) International Human Rights Section and International Law Section are pleased to announce a call for papers on “New Voices in Human Rights and International Law”. The Sections are soliciting papers and works-in-progress on any aspect of human rights law or international law by faculty members who have never presented a human rights or international law paper at the AALS Annual Meeting, which will take place on 2-5 January 2020 in Washington, D.C. They are also open to receiving papers that explore these topics from alternative perspectives or disciplines. Preference will be given to junior scholars. Instead of a full-length paper, please submit a concept note of 5-15 double-spaced pages that contains a summary of the key ideas. If you have already written a full-length paper, please send an excerpt of the paper with an explanatory introduction. Papers will be selected after review by members of the Executive Committees of the Sections or by an appointed panel. Submissions should be sent to Peter Halewood (phale [at] albanylaw [dot] edu) and Tom McDonnell (tmcdonnell [at] law [dot] pace [dot] edu) by 31 August 2019. The New Voices Session is currently scheduled for Friday, 3 January 2020, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. The author of the selected paper(s) will be notified by 6 September 2019. Selected presenters will be responsible for paying their registration fee, hotel, and travel expenses.
  • The “State Accountability under Private, Public, and International Law Conference” seeks to examine the concept of state accountability from three distinct perspectives: private law, public law, and international law. The conference will be held at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Department of Law on 9 November 2019. We invite submissions that address the theme of state accountability, broadly construed, by way of wide-ranging topics. Please send an abstract of no more than 750 words and a short bio to the following email address: stateliabilityconference [at] gmail [dot] com by 30 August 2019. Late submissions will not be considered. Successful submissions will be notified by 8 September 2019, and will be invited to attend the conference’s official dinner.
